At Mountains Dental Sleep Medicine, we look for the causes of Sleep Breathing Disorders, Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMJD) and Orthodontic Problems, and work to treat not only the symptoms but also the causes. Â
Much of what we see, with Kid’s crowded teeth, teenage orthodontic problems, mouth breathing, childhood snoring and sleep apnoea, mouth breathing, TMJ disorders, concentration problems at school, and even suspected ADHD is commonly associated with upper airway problems. It all comes down to making compensations so we can keep breathing – one breath at a time… Â
It’s all about survival… Dr Trevor J Baret BDS (Syd); PGDipClinOrth (London)
If kids are breathing properly, with their lips together, and their tongues resting on the roof of the mouth, the jaws and the nasal airway will develop properly. They will have enough space for all of the teeth to fit, and to come together in the right relationships. When the jaws develop properly and the teeth fit together, working in harmony with the muscles and the joints, then the joints will also be healthy. The airways will develop properly so that there will be minimal or no upper respiratory problems, and healthy air will reach the lungs.
With all of this healthy growth and development, and healthy nutrition, these kids will grow into healthy adults who will be fitter, stronger and more confident in education as well as self-esteem.
